Permits

Permits help ensure that work done within our community is safe, meets legal requirements, and protects residents, property, and public infrastructure. Below, you’ll find information about Fire Permits, Building Permits, and Curb Cutting Permits — including why they’re important and how to apply.

Fire Permits

Fire Permits are now closed for the season.

When a Fire Permit is Required:

A Fire Permit is required for any open-air burning, including brush burning, land clearing, and backyard fire pits between April 1 and October 31 of each calendar year. Fire Permits help prevent uncontrolled fires, especially during dry seasons or in areas with dense vegetation.

Why It Matters:

  • Public Safety: Fire Permits allow the municipality to monitor burning activity and reduce the risk of wildfires.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Knowing where and when burning occurs allows fire services to respond more efficiently in case of emergency.
  • Environmental Protection: Permits ensure burning is done safely and responsibly, minimizing smoke and pollution.

Fire Permit fee $20.00

Building Permits

When a Building Permit is Required:

A Building Permit is needed for most construction, renovation, or demolition work — including new buildings, home additions, decks, garages, plumbing changes, and structural repairs.

Why It Matters:

  • Safety: Permits ensure that all work complies with the Ontario Building Code and municipal bylaws, protecting the health and safety of occupants and the public.
  • Accountability: Inspections during and after construction ensure work is done properly by qualified individuals.
  • Property Value: Work completed under permit can increase property value and provide legal documentation for future sales.

Please note that building plans and drawings will be required with the permit application. For more information, please contact the Municipal Office.

Curb Cutting Permits

When a Curb Cutting Permit is Required:

A Curb Cutting Permit is required when modifying or creating a driveway entrance by cutting the existing curb or sidewalk. The Township of Red Rock requires property owners to submit an application to cut curb infrastructure to ensure proper slopes.

Why It Matters:

  • Infrastructure Protection: Cutting curbs without approval can damage public sidewalks, roads, and underground utilities.
  • Traffic and Pedestrian Safety: Proper curb cuts ensure safe access while maintaining clear sightlines and pathways.
  • Community Planning: Permits help regulate where driveways are located, preventing overcrowding or unsafe intersections.

Curb Cutting Permit fee $100.00
