Celebrating National Public Works Week | May 17 – May 23, 2026

National Public Works Week (NPWW) celebrates the essential services public works staff provide to keep cities running safely, sustainably and efficiently.

This year’s theme, Rooted in Service, Powered by Community, acknowledges the roots of service that run deep in public works. Some work, like building roads and bridges, is highly visible; while other public work constructions, like maintaining water and sewer systems, are sometimes hidden form view.

Together, these efforts form the foundation of thriving communities, reminding us that every project, seen or unseen, powers the connection between services and the people it supports.

Services include:

  • Maintaining roads and sidewalks
  • Supporting stormwater infrastructure to protect homes and natural areas from flooding
  • Delivering road resurfacing, pothole repair, signage and pavement marking services
  • Providing seasonal services such as snow clearing and street sweeping
  • Overseeing facility operations
